The omele gangan, also known as the baby drum, is the smallest drum in the gangan ensemble. The drum diaphragm is carved out of wood, and the drum faces and strings are made of authentic animal hide. The drum produces rich, high tones that act as the backing rhythm for the gangan and iya-ilu. The drum is played underarm using a beater.
